In 1959, Dr. Masters opened
the Institute of Parapsychology in the heart of Beverly Hills,
California. The aim of the institute was to research higher and expanded
states of consciousness as they related to spiritual reality and human
self betterment. He built a large following of students and had to
relocate to the Hollywood area where larger space was available. During
the same time period, Dr. Masters trained his first few teachers. |
| 1963 |
In 1963, Dr. Masters opened
the Metaphysical Foundation as a follow-up to research findings amassed
in the Institute of Parapsychology. The study and research now focused
primarily on the practices of meditation. Thousands of research
experiences by experimenting students were recorded and the effects on
their practical daily lives and spiritual unfoldment were noted. During
this time, Dr. Masters trained numerous meditation teachers. |
| 1965 |
In 1965, the culmination of
the previous years of research began to travel beyond the Southern
California area in printed lessons throughout the United States. Because
of this, the National Metaphysics Institute was founded by Dr. Masters.
The lessons attracted attention from all parts of the country from
people who wished to teach the spiritual truths revealed in lesson
materials. Dr. Masters created specific ministerial ordination programs
to meet this need with people achieving ministerial status through
distance learning all home study. |
| 1976 |
In 1976, to meet a now
rising interest by ministerial graduates for degree programs. Dr.
Masters applied for and gained the legal right to establish the
University of Metaphysics and grant non-secular degrees for use by those
who were ordained by the N.M.I. ministry up to a Doctoral Degree level.
At this point, Dr. Masters began to have the Doctoral program
advertised in various regional and national magazines related to
metaphysics. Suddenly as if by grace of a Divine plan, enrollment not
only came from all over the United States, but the entire world as these
English language magazines were distributed in other countries as
well. |
| 1989 |
By 1989, thousands had
enrolled in Doctoral Degree programs throughout the world. The
organization and its university had become worldwide. To meet the needs
of this enormous growth, Dr. Masters incorporated the
International
Metaphysical Ministry which exists up to the present day. |
| 2003 |
In 2002, while on a trip
through Arizona, Dr. Masters visited Sedona, Arizona—a place he heard of
for years as having a great deal of metaphysical activity because of
people’s claims of having spiritual experiences in energy vortexes in
the area. The spiritually inspiring beauty of Sedona, combined with
inner higher guidance caused Dr. Masters to wish to have a university
location there.
In 2003, Dr. Masters sought
after and established the legal right in Arizona to found the University
of Sedona and award non-secular degrees up to Doctoral or Ph.D. level in
the various ministerial specialties of the organization—the
International Metaphysical Ministry.

| 2004 |
In 2004, in order to
centralize the function of the two university programs for the sake of
maintaining tuitions enrollees could easily afford—the
University of
Metaphysics after having functioned for decades in the Los Angeles area,
was moved in its entirety (all accumulated records of thousands of
students and graduates) to the Sedona area. |
| NOW |
Now the
University of
Metaphysics and the newer University of Sedona—still under Dr Masters’
direction - continue to grow with a worldwide student population into
the thousands. Built from its beginning in 1959 and having attracted a
worldwide alumni—its student population continues to study and bring
the higher truth of human nature to a world so in need of it. |
